Kijevo Travel Guide

Kijevo is a village with a population of 1261, situated by the Knin-Sinj road. The hydro reserve of the River Cetina source is not far away. It was one of the first places that the Serb-Cetniks attacked and destroyed in 1991. Many of the inhabitants were killed and their homes burnt down. Those who were not killed were forced to leave the village.

Kijevo became a symbol of the tragedy of the Croatian people. Now it is undergoing a process of rebuilding. However, the Church of St. Michael will not be rebuilt. Its ruins will be conserved as a reminder of the war atrocities. There is a place called Civljane, by the Kijevo-Vrlika road, where a road for Uniste starts. The land is rich and fertile. The nearby Peruca Lake is an attractive tourist destination.
